Bored senseless in a meeting, Jon McNeill amuses himself with a kinky dating app on his phone. Then the app matches him with another user…who’s six feet away. Suddenly Jon finds himself on the same page as someone who’s way above his pay grade Millionaire property developer Rick Pierce. The app isn’t kidding, either. They’re a perfect match. Jon’s a Dom, Rick’s a sub, and they both love bondage. Both guys are well into their forties, know their way around the bedroom, and definitely appreciate a good suit. And the best part? They’re a match outside the bedroom too. But office relationships aren’t easy to keep a secret. When the truth comes out, Jon is certain he’s about to get fired. Instead, he finds himself tangled up in a much bigger mess. Contains two men who’ve only dreamed of this kind of sex, literal and figurative sex machines, blindfolds, a sub being punished during a business meeting, enough rope to tangle up a millionaire, and a Golden Girls marathon. This 104,000 word novel was previously published.

I'm going to be brutally honest: I didn't enjoy this book. I actually almost put it down and walked away, and I very rarely *ever* put a book down before I finish it.Don't get me wrong, I've read and enjoyed books by this author before. I adore the "Market Garden" series (co-authored with Aleksandr Voinov) and I loved "Wireless." But this book felt like a first draft. A long, monotonous first draft.
The book needed to be half its length. Cut out all the extraneous fluff about the main character's job except what was relevant to the story. Mix up the chapters a little. Half the time the chapters alternated between the narrator moaning about his work and fantasizing about the other character, and the two character's actually having sex. It just went back and forth in that same pattern and became boring.
The main characters were beyond dull. A lot of the time I couldn't even remember the narrator's name. They had no conflict with *each other.* Their relationship was "perfect" from the start and even when something did come between them, they just tucked their tails between their legs, and the narrator whined for the next few chapters. The plot twist/climax could be seen coming a mile away. And don't get me wrong, I love happy endings, but this story ended so a neat and tidy. I wish it had been a little more open-ended.
Then there was the sex. I love reading books with copious amounts of sex, don't get me wrong. The BDSM was a lot tamer than I had expected based on the story summary (especially after just finishing up the "Market Garden" series). The sex in this book became repetitive and boring. I don't know if it was because it all followed the same pattern (something kinda kinky, sex, then cuddling and fluff) or if there was just so *much* sex that I ended up just rolling my eyes after awhile. If the book was shorter and the sex scenes reined in to maybe three or four "big" scenes, it might not have felt like such a slog to get through.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. But I just couldn't get into it.

Not Safe For Work L A Witt 9781535073813 Books Reviews
This book was okay. My problem was the hero sounded much younger than he was portrayed. He was supposed to be 46 years old but he sounded like a kid in his mid-20s. Having been in my mid-40s surrounded by much younger co-workers, I tolerated their behavior but I was the one they came to advice. He seemed to join in a bit too much, like he was one of them. And as the Dom of the relationship, he sounded insecure and hesitant. It just didn't fit. Having said that...by the end of the book, I could totally feel the hero's dilemma. The rest of the book didn't work for me, particularly that he was supposed to a Dom when he sounded submissive for much of the book.
Jon was not the type of Dom I've read in other BDSM books. He enjoyed domination but it wasn't a whole lifestyle for him. He also wasn't a sadist. The kink very very mild in this story, IMO. I'm not into the scene, I just read it occasionally. So other opinions may differ. The rest of the story was good. It did drag in some places. I got rather bored with the work details. I think the dynamic of his workplace and impacts of long hours could have been conveyed more succinctly. Some was necessary to set up the issue that led to the hard part of the book. But that did take it down a star.
Rick wasn't as fully fleshed out as he could have been. The first-person POV didn't provide the connection I wanted. There wasn't enough to figure out why he couldn't provide a better solution to Jon's situation. I did think Jon's reactions were realistic, although they were kind of knee-jerk. He was worried for his coworkers. It suited his character as the caretaker type who needed to provide for everyone's needs. His reaction was also logical for a Dom personality, who was not in control of the situation. So, I understand his commitment to his kids education. He was also taking care of his ex-wife, who was supportive of him, while offering good advice. Did I think he should have handled it differently to start with? Yes, but it was only a few days and he didn't drag it out into martyrdom status.
The niggles didn't make me like the book less. I would have liked a little more kink, but that's just me. Some of the authors best books were the Market Garden series. I think her co-author, Alexander Voinov, might have been the kinkier one! LA Witt will still remain a go-to author for me.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. I think that my biggest gripe was with how Jon let his circumstances and the choices of others dictate his life. I understand that not everyone is in a position to live independently, and his focus had been on paying his children's college fees for so long that it became his primary focus; but it just became painful to read about as Rick needed Jon's dominance, but wasn't able to get it while Jon felt so out of control.
I also felt that when Jon and Rick would scene together, there was a lot of talk about things, but uncharacteristically (for L.A. Witt) little actual dominance and submission. They'd say that they wanted to do a long edging session, but it never materialized. I also never got the impression that Rick ever quite made it to subspace in any of the scenes that we got to experience - which was disappointing.
Overall, I thought that this was an ok story, but I felt that it lacked the compelling emotional connection that I normally associate with this author's characters.
I'm going to be brutally honest I didn't enjoy this book. I actually almost put it down and walked away, and I very rarely *ever* put a book down before I finish it.
